24th September 2002 Sheep Dog Results. At the Northern open trial held last Sunday at Harwood in Teesdale, Arthur Temple and Lassie 2 took the title with a clear four point lead. Philip Exelby of Tadcaster, judged the entry of 38 dogs. Over an undulating pasture that rose very slightly to the lift, the running was on Swaledale ewes and shearlings. On home ground, they tended to be a little flighty and were difficult to pen. With run number 9, Lassie had a good start, losing just one point from her outrun and one from her fetch. Five were deducted from her driving, mainly for being slightly high on the cross-drive. One final point was lost at the pen where the black and tan bitch worked hard before she captured her charges with just seconds of time to spare. Six-years-old at the end of this month, Lassie was bred by Malcolm Mason of Driffield out of Meg and sired by David Brady’s Scot. RESULTS: NORTHERN, Harwood in

Stuart Davidson and Star won the most coveted of titles last weekend at the International Sheep Dog Trials, held at Seaforde, Northern Ireland, the Supreme Championship. Of the fifteen competitors to qualify for the final day, Stuart and Star took the penultimate trial. As only two dogs had completed their course and both trials had faults, the competition was wide open. Giving his full concentration for a full 30 minutes, Star worked extremely well. After an outstanding first gather, he required more direction over the second, but once on his way he went beautifully. Working up on his feet and taking every command he guided his sheep through all obstacles before entering the shedding ring with 17 minutes of time left. Throughout the Blackface ewes and shearlings were very difficult in the ring. With hard work by both man and dog, eventually the fifteen unmarked sheep were removed, but on reaching the pen the bell rang signifying time-up. Nevertheless their good worked earned them the Supreme Championship title, with Bobby Dalziel and Jack in second place. Star was bred in November
1993 by Ian Siswick of Marsden, out of Liz, a granddaughter of Thompson
McKnight’s Drift. Her
sire was Ian Roy, a grandson of Glyn Jones’ Bwlch Taff. RESULTS: INTERNATIONAL, Seaforde, Northern Ireland, Championships: Supreme: S. Davidson (Dunoon, Scotland) Star. Farmers: M. Holiday Saturday, the following Tuesday they took the title at Kilnsey. Eight-year-old Flash is homebred out of his master’s Bess, a great granddaughter of John Thomas’ Craig. His sire is Peter Ellis’ Cap, a son of Alan leak’s Tweed. Two trials were held at Easby last Saturday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Tony Bell and Chad were the victors of both. Alan Bainbridge of East Witton judged the 30 morning entries where Chad took a three point lead over Mick Ward’s Tess. During the afternoon Neil Jones judged an entry of 42, where Chad had a two-point advantage over the runners up, Bob Clarkson and Cap. Five-year-old Chad was bred by Keith Conner of Cranswick out of Meg and sired by his Sam. He is the same way bred as Neil Jones’ Bob, but from a more recent litter. RESULTS: KILNSEY SHOW, Open: 1, C.
