ARCHIVED TRIAL RESULTS

OCTOBER 2002

29th October 2002    Sheep Dog Results.

At the Ryedale nursery trial held at Glaisdale, North Yorkshire on Saturday, Ian Murdoch’s Nell took a clear victory over the entry of 27 dogs, judged by Bob Harland of Egton.  Running over a course that sloped gently downhill on manageable Mule ewes, the first run of the day, David Bristow and Queen, set a good standard gaining 75 points. When Ian arrived at the trial they were awaiting runners, therefore he went straight on at number 16 with Nell.  Between a clean start and finish she lost an odd point from her fetch and two from her driving.  Working mainly up on her feet she had good control of her sheep and balanced them well.  Her score of 87 gave her an undisputed lead over David and Queen in second place.

Nell was bred by L. Booton of Ripon, in January 2000, out of a bitch also named Nell.  Her sire is Alan Bainbridge’s Ben, a son of Bob Clarkson’s Gail by Robin Dean’s Roy.  Ian bought her partly trained last March from Derek Bowmer.  After winning two weeks earlier at Gillamoor, in her first season, this was her second nursery win.

22nd October 2002    Sheep Dog Results.

David Bristow and Wisp took a double victory on Saturday at Fulwood Booth, near Sheffield, when they won both the nursery class and the nursery championship.  Richard Clipsham of Gainsborough judged the running, which was over a rising course on mainly Swaledale and Scottish Blackface ewes. Eighteen-months-old, Wisp is owned by Neil Jones, who due to a lack of time because of family commitments has loaned him to David.  He was bred by Neil out of Gyp and by Bob.

Winner of the novice class was Clarence Storey and four-year-old Cap.  Gus Dermody’s Tia took the championship title. A three-year-old bitch, Tia was bred by Janet Reed out of Mist and sired by Wilf Reed’s Cap.

15th October 2002    Sheep Dog Results.

Last weekend say the start of the Pennine Inter-club nursery season where each Saturday two of the five societies hold a trial, but competitors are only allowed to run at one, not both.  Holme held it’s first nursery over the lower slopes of Deerplay Hill. Over the sizeable course the running was on mostly Cheviot cross Lonk shearlings, which behaved reasonably well apart from being tricky to pen.  Robert Tarbatt of Darwen judged the entry of 51 dogs.   With run number 35 Jim Cropper won the trial with his young smooth coated dog Dan, one point ahead of Richard Handy and Jim, who had been standing top with run number 8.  Not yet twelve-months-old, Dan was bred by Shaun Richards of Burnley out of Gael and sired by Jim’s Sid.  Similar in both looks and method to his sire, this was Dan’s first nursery win.

At Fylde, the other inter-club trial, Peter Fox of Withgill judged an entry of 38.  Over the mainly flat course, the Swaledale whether lambs could at times be sticky and refuse to flow in a straight line.  With a late run James Dewhurst’s Maddie took the title with her first run away from home. A blue mottled bitch she was bred in January 2000 by her master out of Tilly, a daughter of Maurice Collin’s Spot and sired by Robins Dean’s Roy.
