RESULTS

25th November 2003    Sheep Dog Results.

After winning the Meltham nursery held last Saturday with Peg, on Sunday John Wood went on to take the championship title at Parks Farm with Jen.

At Meltham Sam Simmonite of Glossop judged the entry of 27 dogs.  Although the crossbred ewes were not easily managed, Peg kept good control of her packet to win the trial on 85 of 90 points. A smooth coated, mainly black bitch, Peg was bred in April 2001 by Bill Skidmore of Wolsingham out of Joy.  Her sire is her master’s Scott, a son of Stuart MacFarlane’s Vic and grandson of John Templeton’s Spot.

On Sunday at Parks Farm, Allan Heaton of Brandsby judged the trial entry of 32, then the concluding championship. Over a sizeable flat field the running was on Mule gimmer lambs that ran well if handled with firm but quiet authority. John Bell and Jess won the nursery class with the penultimate run.  In the championship it was John Wood who took the title, this time with Jen.  A tri-coloured bitch, Jen has the same sire as her kennel mate Peg.  Les Jones of Wrelton bred her in April 2002 out of Peg, a daughter of John Templeton’s Tweed.

18th November 2003    Sheep Dog Results

The two nursery trials held within minutes of each other at Quernmore, North Lancashire, last Saturday, attracted large entries.  At Lee End Farm, Fred Ingham of Arnside, judged 67 dogs as they worked flighty Herdwick cross hoggs over a compact flat course.      With the very last run of the day Tom Lawrenson and Floss took the title with a clear seven-point lead.  Homebred in February 2002, Floss is out of Tillymauld Nell and sired by Derek Scrimgeour’s Ben.  In her first season this was her second nursery win.

At Rooten Brook, James Burrows of Silverdale, scored an entry of 62 dogs.  Over the rising course the Swaledale ewes were reasonable to manage if handled carefully. At number 25 Michael Longton earned the winning score with Monty.  A mainly black rough-coated dog, Monty was bred by Jim Hutchinson of Littledale out of Clifton Tess and sired by his master’s Moss.  In his first season this was also Monty’s second title.

10th November 2003    Sheep Dog Results.

Stephen Thexton and Nap took a clear win at the Windermere nursery trial held on Saturday at New Hutton, near Kendal, Cumbria.  William Mason of Gaisgill, judged the 30 entries as they worked Mule gimmer hoggs over a hillside course.  Provided they were handled carefully the sheep ran better over the morning as by afternoon they tended to break towards where they were taken off.  Running at number nine Nap had a good round to earn 71 of 80 points and take the title clear by seven points over David Harrison and Ben in second place.

Nap was bred in May 2001 by Athol Clark of Middleton out of Lucky and sired by Nip.  Stephen bought him from Athol last December and has trained him over the spring and summer.  After winning at the first North Westmorland trial, this was his second title to date.
