26th June 2002
Sheep Dog Results. Having won the Harden Moss Double Gather Championship in 1997 with Rainow Bob, on Sunday James Gilman repeated his success, but this time with Jack. From the three days of trialing James competed in the open class held on Saturday, where he was placed second. From Friday and Saturday the top three open competitors qualified to compete in the championship which was judged by Ian Murdoch of Sheriff Hutton. In addition the winner of the local open, which was James Howard and Jack also qualified. Drawn to run first James and Jack put the pressure on the other contenders by having a very good run and gaining a score that was not beaten. Jack was bred by his master out of Pearl, a daughter of Paul Turnbull’s Nap and sired by his previous winner, Bob. Three-and-a-half-years-old he is a very keen good looking black and white dog. With the penultimate run
of the day, on Sunday Stuart Walton and Dug took the title at the Bishop
Burton open trial. Neil
Jones of Thwing judged the 52 entries as they competed over a parkland
setting working Suffolk-cross ewes.
A five-year-old dog, Dug was bred by Stephen Thexton out of Fly
and sired by Athol Clark’s Nip. RESULTS: HARDEN MOSS, Championship: 1, James Gilman (Bosley) Jack, 128 of 140; 2, S. Beaton (Nun Appleton) Selby, 118; 3, J. Howard (Holme) Jack, 116; equal 4, D. It could not have been a
closer result at the mid-week Stephen Hepworth Charity open for the two
top trials were on the same points. Bill has been running
particularly well recently. At
the beginning of June he took the title at the Trawden trial held at
Twiston, having been placed second at an earlier mid-week trial held at
Hebden Bridge. Six-years-old
he was bred by D.G. Roberts out of Lyn and by Cap, a son of Alf’s
Moss. RESULTS: STEPHEN HEPWORTH CHARITY TRIAL, Silsden, Open: 1, A. Kyme (Lumb) Bill, 86 of 100, OLF; 2, R. Milford) Jim, 89. 11th June 2002 Sheep Dog Results. The annual Deerplay Hill trial was held over last weekend in poor weather conditions. Raymond MacPherson of Kirklinton, judged the 80 entries in the qualifying trial on Saturday, from which the 20 highest pointed dogs went forward into the double gather championship held on Sunday. Running at number 36 Derek Scrimgeour’s Lyn worked well to take the qualifying trial clear by three points over Keith Preston’s Mac in second place. A smooth coated bitch, six-year-old Lyn was bred in Ireland by Con McGarry out of Di and by Dave. On Sunday the wind had strengthened and particularly over the afternoon there was very heavy rain. Both hearing and seeing were difficult. Nevertheless, Jim Cropper and Sid had an exceptional trial to take the double gather championship; the first time Jim has taken this title. Both of Sid’s gathers were good. At times he had to use his own initiative and he kept his sheep settled and moving at a nice pace. On completion of the testing outfield work he finished clean at his shed, pen and single. The fact that he lost just 14 points from a possible 190 reflected the quality of his work. Three-year-old Sid was bred by Nigel Watkins of South Wales out of Jet and sired by Ceri Rundle’s Bwlch Hemp. Prior to last weekend he had four open titles to his credit and he has now taken his first double gather championship. RESULTS: DEERPLAY HILL, Double Gather Championship: 1, J. PARKES FARM, Howden, Open Trial held on 29th May raised £175 for cancer research. 4th June 2002 Sheep Dog Results. A high standard of
competitive work was seen at the Twiston open trial on Saturday, where
Raymond MacPherson of Brampton, had a very long day judging the 108
entries. The Mule hoggs ran
consistently well over the course that had a fetch of about 300 metres. Although it could be gathered either way, the left offered a
more gradual climb while the right was steeper and the dogs lost sight
of their sheep for at least half the way.
Alf Kyme and Bill took the title with an excellent trial losing
just four points throughout. Six-year-old
Bill was bred by D.G. Roberts out of Lyn and by Cap, which is a son of
Alf’s Moss. RESULTS: TRAWDEN, Twiston, Open: 1, A. Kyme (Lumb) Bill, 86 of 90; 2, G. Watt (Isle of Man) York, 85; 3, S. Hepworth (Denholme) Carrie, 84, OLF; 4, P. Noble (Quernmore) Bob, 84; 5, M.
